Connor Sims went the distance on July 26. Literally.
The 15-year-old Sims, a freshman-to-be at Kentwood High, won his age bracket during the state driving competition at Everett Golf and Country Club.
Sims outdrove roughly 20 other golfers in his age division. Each golfer received two chances to hit the ball. Sims’ winning drive sailed 319 yards.
“I was just looking to relax, and I hit my first one down the middle,” he said. “It felt good because I knew I could hit the ball a long way compared to the other kids.
“I hit it right off the center of the club.”
