End-of-year awards

We’ve now reached the end of the prep year and it’s time that we begin making decisions on the area’s top male and female athletes.
Nominations can be e-mailed to me at ewalker@kentreporter.com.
Each year, we select one top male and female athlete along with a Coach of the Year. Though I haven’t had time to break down the numbers yet, it appears as though it’s going to be a tight race this year in both genders. I’d love to hear any and all thoughts on the matter. Again, feel free to e-mail me your nominations and, please, give me some detail as to why you’re making the nomination. Along with our top male/female athletes and coaches, I always like to put together a list of other top performances from the year that just took place.
I look forward to seeing some nominations.

Kentwood freshman Catherina Li was the top local placer during last week’s girls Class 4A state golf tournament at Downriver Golf Course in Spokane. Li held the lead after the opening day and finished with a two-day total of 149, which proved good enough for a fifth-place finish. Other top finishers included: Hannah Kim of Kentridge (12th), Tahoma’s Amanda Fairweather (14th), while Kentwood’s Jamie Huo (18th)   and Erika Vossbeck (180) rounded out the local female list. Kentwood’s Connor Sims (15th), who competed at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane, was the lone local male to place.
